So far this summer we've seen 'The Mummy Returns', 'Tomb Raider', and now 'Atlantis'. And whether or not these movies are any good, or if they're worth your time and money, they ARE Indyesque.

With the exception of the first 'Mummy' in the summer of '99, we as Indy fans went a dozen years without seeing ANYTHING that resembled Indy on the big screen. And since the only thing the "Big 3" have proven successful at is jerkin' our chains, these Indyesque movies are all we'll get.

No matter what some fans say about rip-offs, and what the critics say about lack-luster scripts, we HAVE TO settle for these movies.

I'm afraid that after seeing the success of 'The Mummy', movie studios rushed to cash in on this newly revived genre by pumping out similar films. I also fear that the poor quality of the recent scripts will leave a bad taste in the public's mouth, leaving future Indyesque movies unprofitable, hence unmakeable.

Perhaps if the studios hadn't blown their collective load this summer in respect to Adventure movies, this wouldn't be such an issue. But having 3 similar movies debut in the same summer may hurt our chances of EVER seeing Indy-like characters again, let alone Indy himself.
