I completely agree with you. I feel the exact same way. Personally, I think it's a product of video. Now that we can watch movies over and over at home, pause it, memorize it etc...there's a tendency there to pick at the VERY minor details...

Another thing is that I think society has gotten way more cynical about film in the 90's/2000's than the 80's. You can't turn on a TV and not see a "Making Of" special that reveals all of a film's secrets...that's why movies are often criticized for SFX now, not admired. It's usually the first thing people talk about now...what about the frigging story, what about the editing? Man...I could go on.

I will say one more thing though - video has turned movie theatres into people's living rooms. I mean, I never remember "Silence is Golden" promos when I was a kid - they actually have to ASK people to be quiet now...what a sad world we live in.
