You've got to make sure you've "unlocked" all the controls. When you're in "submarine mode," check and see if you can move all the controls. After this, try running the mouse across the screen until you find a "airlock." This will be your goal: to try and steer your way into it. Since this relies on perspective, direction, and speed, it may take many attempts to get there. Try all the controls and find their purpose. This is one of the most difficult parts of the game (and the most confusing), so understand that it might take a while to get the hang of it. Godspeed!
