A thought on Spielberg & Indy IV...

Hey Gang:

There seems to be a lot of hard feelings that because Spielberg has other projects on the go, we have to wait for Indy IV. Spielberg has YET to commit to directing anything beyond Minority Report. Just because he says he has projects, doesn't mean they'll happen with him as director.

Look at old interviews from the 1980's. Spielberg said he wanted to produce/direct "intensely personal" projects. I don't think we really got that until Empire of the Sun or Schindler's List.

Another thing to remember is that in 1984, Spielberg was set to direct RainMan, which obviously didn't happen.

Finally, I'll hazard a guess that if Ford/Lucas/Paramount said, "Okay, let's go," then Spielberg would drop whatever he was doing to direct Indy IV. Not only that, but he has CLEARLY demonstrated that he can direct more than one film at a time.

Anyway, food for thought.
