.....after I had written the post, and it was playing out it my memory, I did consider it. But, the creatures do seem to be
reminiscent of the spindly aliens inCE3K.
Also, Kubrick's tone is generally intellectual, cold, and emotionally detached, whereas Spielberg tends to
be more warm and direct. And whereas Spielberg captured a Kubrick quality quite well early on, his own
tendencies (as exhibiited in the ending) DIDN'T fit well with what came before.
