Well, I'd Tolkien leave Tolkien to describe it even were "Mithrandir" not my nickname. Actually, it's an alternate name for Gandalf, the Elvish name for him I believe. Do you know of the White Council Forum? Discusses all things Tolkien and Lewis. Give you directions if you like.
