I was thinking the same thing the other day when watching TOD. Indy has the Shankara stones and can get out of there quick, easy, and with fortune and glory, but can't leave once he hears the screams of the slave children. And in the end, he rescues the kids AND gives the Stone back to the village. That's also quite heroic. Is Raiders the only one where he wasn't being selfless? ;) No, really. It was about two things: 1, getting the Ark for his museum, and 2, his personal vendetta against Belloq.
