This is indeed a localized "urban legend" that also occurred when I was contacted by a "fan" who stated the same thing occurred with his jacket. After a period of time, it turns out it was mis-information being put out by a disgruntled customer who had fouled up a jacket return, and was blaming Peter and co. for his screw up. He then created the story based on what he had read from Patterson's postings, which you also see were incorrect. When challenged, the "fan" has completely disappeared from radar. Bottom line is, absolutely no, there is not truth to the story, and never was one, except for the shady repair work of the shop that our friend Patterson had to deal with.
