He sure as hell wouldn't carry a bag that keeps hitting him in the nuts when running from the locals. He'd have a backpack. Nothing fancy, maybe High Sierra brand.
For protection he'd carry an incredibly ruggid Glock 35 which will survive, sand, water, being dropped, etc, and which packs a respectable punch with its .40 caliber.
