I fear snakes as well. Wasn't always that way. I used to study them and do reports on them in elementary school. But then...

There used to be a trapper at our cabin, and he'd always stop by on his way out to show us his rattlers in the cages. Once, he invited us down to his place in the valley to see them loose, so we did.

Though I'm sure he had them under control, when he let them out of the cages, they came right for us. I was terrified, Dad threw me up on the hood of the truck, and ever since, I've feared them.

Of course everyone teases the coincidence, but I tell the story, and explain that HF has no fear of snakes and they understand.

I could also tell you the time I had a dead 5 foot rattler in the back of the car, but it'd make this post even longer. 'nother time maybe.
