DVD Farse?

I don't own a DVD player or any DVDs, I've never even watched a DVD movie, but I've noticed something that seems to be a growing trend.

It seems that movies are initially released on DVD, only to have their "Special Editions" come out a few months later. Now what kind of cheesy marketing ploy is that? Here some poor sucker goes and buys the 'Die Hard' trilogy or 'The Mummy', only to find out that they've now released the Special Editions with loads more extras and features.

Boy I don't know, I'd be pretty pissed if I had to buy a movie TWICE on DVD.
