: I don't own a DVD player or any DVDs, I've never even watched a DVD movie, but I've noticed something that seems to be a growing trend.

: It seems that movies are initially released on DVD, only to have their "Special Editions" come out a few months later. Now what kind of cheesy marketing ploy is that? Here some poor sucker goes and buys the 'Die Hard' trilogy or 'The Mummy', only to find out that they've now released the Special Editions with loads more extras and features.

: Boy I don't know, I'd be pretty pissed if I had to buy a movie TWICE on DVD.

Most of the early DVD's were bare bones because they needed to create an available catalog that was big enough to draw interest(with no catalog, DVD wouldn't have caught on like it did). Now that the format has a solid base, they're going back and remastering those movies and adding all the extras- and only because people are screaming for them. They had no idea at the time that extras were going to be so popular(it's even got to the point where some people won't even buy a movie if there's no extras).
