I don't think Austin's talking about those original DVD's, besides, there aren't that many instances where the originals have been upgraded to Special Editions.

I think he's referring to the trend to release new titles with few extras, only to release a Special Edition later in the year. (Or as I pointed out, an Ultimate Edition after that.)
