: : The location of the Ark, where its religious importance is concerned, is not realevant to 'Raiders'. The Ark was siezed in a raid on Jerusalem by the Egyptians (the Hollywood version, mind you) and taken back to Egypt as a spoil of war. It was taken for its monitary value, not its religious value. It was 'enshrined' and guraded by snakes because I'm sure the Egyptians thought the Hebrews would come to reclaim it. The movie says it was taken by a Pharoh named Shishak. To my knowlrdge there was no such Pharoh. The Well of the Souls, however, did exist. It was a secret chamber beneath the Temple of Solomon. As for the contents of the Ark I believe the 'sand' to the Ten Commandments. The Hebrew people being monotheistic and the Egyptians being polytheistic, I'm sure they would have desecrated the tablets. As for the ending, well, that's Hollywood my friend!
