: I seen Raiders again last night for the first time in several years/ ( still loved it )

: But i do have some real questions about the understanding the move makers had of the Hebrew people.

: Im a Certified Minster of the Assembly of God church. And i have studied the Hebrews quit well but by no means an expert. So here is my problem with Raiders.

: 1st. Where Indy finds the Ark, That room was all marked up with egyption drawings on the wall ( for give the spelling, its late. :-) )
: and that Statue Indy turns over, that is a Eqypten god statue. And the Snakes, In the hebrewish custome the Snake is an symble of Satan.

: This room and its statues and drawing would go against every thing God told the hebrew people to do.

: 2nd. The Ark, or better yet the contents of the Ark, The Ark carried the ten commandments in it.

: 3rd. The death of the guys that looked into the ark. This is the most interesting part. After the Death of Christ the Ark was no longer dangerous to anyone who touched it. True before the death of Christ the ark was only allowed to be touched by the Priests of the 12 tribes of Iseral.

: Well thought you guys might like this bit of info.

I think #'s 1 & 2 have been answered fairly well in the below reponses to your post. But as far as #3, here's my take:
If I remember my Sunday School correctly :-) God dwelt literally on what was known as the "Bema Seat" (or the part of the ark just above the two covering cherubs). This is why the the ark was placed in the "Holy of Holies" in the temple. The Jewish priests were the only ones who could enter (in fact, they tied a rope around their legs in case they were not Holy enough. If they were found to be harboring sin, they would die immediately. Hence, the other priests would be able to pull them out of the "Holy of Holies" without having to expend a "few more men" in an effort to get the dead priest out! When Jesus died on the cross, the veil that covered the "Holy of Holies" was torn in two. At that point, God no longer dwelt literally over the ark. The "Old Law" (Ie. the Ten Commandments)was now fulfilled by Jesus' death on the cross. Man no longer lived under the judgement (or "curse", if you will) of the Law. So to shed further light on your comments, and as someone mentioned below, this is just "Tinsel Town's" way of making a good storyline. They borrowed from bits and pieces of the Ark history and made it into something a little more entertaining. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Indiana Pete

PS. By they way, it's good to see someone else from the AOG's here! :-)
