The Well of Souls is not a 'secret' chamber beneath the Temple of Solomon. In fact it is a very real and public place that I and many others have been to. It is a small alcove beneath the 'foundation stone' on Mount Moriah, the foundation stone of the Temple in Jerusalem. (If you remember your biblical history, this is the stone to which Isaac was fastened by his father, Abraham, when he was nearly sacrificed. This is located on the Temple Mount under the Dome of the Rock.) Muslims believe that when Muhammad died, he mounted a magical horse who took him to heaven by leaping off this rock. It is said that a hoofprint from this horse can bee seen in on the face of the rock.

Devout Muslims go to the Well of Souls where it is customary to light a candle in memory of those who have died. Even in the height of the summer in Israel, it is quite cool in the Well, and a light breeze can be felt, though its locus is indeterminate--perhaps the genesis of its name.
