Hello,

I want to buy a pair of Aldens. I do have a few questions that I need
answered so that I can make an informed decision:

1. How heavy are those boots? Do they weigh more than two pounds a
piece?

2. What lenght laces is needed? It seems the laces do run awfully
short.

3. Are flat or round laces authentic? Is there an advantage to round
laces, do the flat ones twist?

4. How is the sole of the boot attached? Is it nailed, glued, sewn, or
attached with all three methods?

5. Do the lace hooks bend and break easily? Can they be replaced at
any shoe repair place?

6. Is it possible to have a gusset added to the boot's tongue to keep
dirt and sand out?

7. How long do the sole and the heel last on average?

8. Should I get insoles? I have a slightly pronated foot.

9. Can I make these boots waterproof, or will that be impossible due
to the stitching on the mocassin toe? Is it even advisable to
waterproof the boot, or can't the leather breath afterwards?

10. What would be the best leather protectant for those boots (They
are made from cowhide, I think)?

11. How hot are those boots in the summer?

12. Should I get the regular size? I want medium thick socks to fit.
How about width? Can I choose width for the heel too?

13. How much does it cost to have the boots completely overhauled by
Alden? How long does it take and is it worth it?

14. Do the smooth soles provide ample traction on most surfaces? How
about on wet grass, wood, etc?

15. Did I forget anything?

I appreciate all comments and replies.

Thank you!
