Horsehide and goat measure pretty much neck an neck in most toughness metrics. History has proven that goat remains wearable far longer than horsehide, however. Looking at original A2's from WWII and before, the goatskin versions can generally still be worn, while the horsehide versions are pretty much relegated to being framed and hng on a wall.
