Not lanolin!

Anyway, refined woolgrease, lanolin, has had the free fatty acids neutralized and most of the free alcohol (cholesterol, actually) removed. In fact, it should not get rancid if it's pure.
The quality of lanolin depends on its purity. Generally, the lighter it is (whitish) the higher the quality. Poor quality lanolin will be yellow.
One problem could be that lanolin melts at 40 degr. C (104 degr.F).
Oh, and pestcides may lurk in lanolin. After all, sheep eat grass that may or may not have pesticides on it. The pesticides concentrate in the wool. Not that important when putting lanolin on a jacket...
