If you purchased your bag with straps from Noel Howard, he used riveted studs. So they way I took mine off without ruining the strap was to get a philips head type screw driver. Place the screwdriver right over the rivet and with a few strikes of a hammer you can shimy out the rivet. I highly recommend replacing these studs with "Chicago Screws" that you can purchase from Tandy Leather. The Chicago screws have the same look as the studs, but with the advantage of screwing them out when you need to clean.
