It is inserted into the opening of the hat, and retains the SIZE of the hat and keeps the sweat band and surrounding felt from shrinking. It has nothing to do with holding the top bash or shaping. It just retains the size and shape of the actual opening of the hat, which is the most important area of the hat (to my thinking ) as that's where it has to fit. Thanks for asking. : How exactly does this guy work? Does it retain the shape of the bashing as well? Or just the headband area and brim?
: I ask only because of the obvious fact that if someone does a custom bashing job, how do we know that this contraption will match the bash in the hat?
