What I thought was a chrome plated worm gear is actually high impact plastic as well! This way you don't have to worry about anything rusting should you be using it in a wet fedora. Sorry about that. Regards. Michaelson

: Peters Bros. announced yesterday that they now have in stock new hat shape retainers. They are HIGHLY recommended for use in hats that are stored for long periods of time, or in hats that have been completely soaked in the rain/snow and are drying out. The retainers hold the felt in place and keep it from shrinking, "retaining" the orignal shape and size of the hat. The retainer is oval (as opposed to most that come with only two sided contact pieces) and made from high impact plastic, while the center worm gear adjuster is chrome plated metal. They are priced at $30, and be purchased through the Peters Bros. site, or call them directly to order. For the serious hat collector, it's an item you really shouldn't be without, regardless of who you buy one from. The retainer helps protect your fedora investment, and help them last for years.
