between the internal sweatband and the hat (that is how the hatters
adjust the hat for you if one size smaller is too small and the

staple will not work unless it is driven into your scull for at least
quarter of inch. if the staple is only hanging onto your skin, it
wiil come off very easily.
I'm not sure whether Ford has tried this method or not, but it was
a dumb idea, there is easier solution and the staple doesn't work
even if he tried it. He probably got a massive headache and infection
from it if he did try it.
