Whittling is a great hobby, but by now, Indy must have a shack full of whittled ocarinas and owls (?). :p
You say the blade tarnished quickly? What's it made from? Nickel (no pun intended), or was it made from steel with a high carbon content? That wouldn't have held and edge well anyway, and would have be useful only to Indy the chef. Maybe you could have coated the blade with shellac (not at the very edge though) in order to prevent oxydation. I like easy-care 440C steel for regular use. I think I should stop rambling, or the natives will get upset. ;)

PS: Do I get another Chris Craft?? ;)

: Did anyone else ever get the YIJC pocket knife way back in the early 1990s? It came with a cheesy letter "written" by Indiana Jones (in which he admitted that he enjoyed whittling when things were slow) and a spiffy box. My only problem with it was that it tarnished about four seconds after I unwrapped it. Did anyone else have this problem? And if you actually tried to use it out in the real world, it would tarnish even faster. Just keeping it in my pocket on a hike would devistate that blade. I spent most of my allowance (remember allowances? Those were the days!) buying a variety of oils and polishes to keep that danged knife clean! I consider myself a somewhat experienced pocket knife owner, and never owned a more tempermental knife. Was I the only one who was dissatisfied with the quality of the YIJC knife? Please don't say "yes".
