: Supposedly, there is some truth in the Arturian legend. Such a ruler probably existed, but the subsequent versions of the legend changed and distorted historical truth. There are quite a few books in which authors tried to unearth the roots of the legend, but it's difficult since very few sources from the Dark Ages survive. For starters, you might try the Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh legends in which Arthur first appeared.
