Indy's Sunglasses -- why didntt he wear any??????

I was wondering why Indy never wore sunglasses. There were plenty of oppurtunities--the Ark Dig, mid-air Last crusade dog fight--and I figured he would've chosen the popular aviator style glasses, which WWII pilots wore at the time. Right now I'm planning on buying the aviators from US Wings.
What do you guys think? Doesn't Indy need protection from the sun?
