: In Temple when the pilot and the copilot decide to jump ship, what were they thinking? Why did they jump out there? They could have at least waited until they were closer to a populated area. When they reached the ground they would be in the same hostile territory that Indy and friends ended up in when they landed. What a couple of knuckleheads! Does anyone know anything about what happened to these characters after they left the plane?

"Lao Che radioed the pilot. The crime lord's message was angry and to the point: Get rid od Dr. Jones and his friends! When the passengers were fast asleep, the pilot and co-pilot sneaked back to the cargo hold and began to argue. Neither had the courage to carry out Lao's orders. But they feard Lao Che. They knew their lives were in danger if they disappointed him. There was more arguing before they thought od a solution. They emptied the fuel from the tanks, strapped on parachutes and tiptoed past their sleeping passengers to the plane door. Cold air hit Willie like a slap in the face, waking her. She opened her eyes just in time to see the pilots leaping from the plane." [Michael French, TOD Storybook, Random House (1984) Pgs.9-10]
Apparently, they feared Lao Che more than a brisk walk in the Himalyas. Or, maybe Lao Che sent another plane with snow skids to pic them up. Just food for thought!
