Indymandius

I met a digger from an antique land,
Who said--"Two burned and shattered wings of steel
Lie in the desert . . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half chopped a bloodied mechanic's body grimaces, whose head,
And bruises, and staring lifeless eyes,
Tell that its foe well from those propellers hid
Who yet survives, crouched behind these concealing dunes,
The hand that fought them, the snakes that fed;
And from that foe, these words appear:
'My name is Indymandius, Obtainer of Rare Antiquities,
Get us some transport to England, ye Sallah, anything!'
Marion beside remains. Round the wreckage
Of that colossal Wing, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."
