Fedora Questions

I used to be a regular on the Indyfan forum. College sort of got in the way. If I remember correctly, over the summer, the Akubra Federation fedora was highly praised as a close substitute. Now however, I can't find reference to it on indygear.com. Is it still popular, or has it been supplanted.
Also, can anyone clarify a question I have on making the dimensional cut on a fedora? Where does the cut start in reference to the lines drawn across the brim? Does the cut start where the lines and the brim intersect, and widen to l/8", or in some other fashion? Thanks so much,
