: : : : : : : : Is the pre-distressed version simply painted on, or is it really worn? I was just wondering if they used some sort of process to rapidly age it or if it's just paint. if so, does the paint look and feel realisitic?

: : : : : : : The distressed look is not painted on. They put the jacket in a special dryer with some fine rocks. This gives the jacket the distressed look. As I said before, the jacket looks great. However, if you are going to order one, ask them to make the side pocket openings a little wider. I have a hard time getting my hands in the pockets and it is almost impossible to get them out. Don't get me wrong, I love the jacket. If I had enough money I would order another one just like it.

: : : : : : It wouldn't be good to put your hands in the handwarmer slits.
: : : : : : They are not really designed for that. They are made to slip the
: : : : : : adjusting straps into. If you put your hands inside and have a
: : : : : : difficult time getting them out- be warned that you may be
: : : : : : starting to make the pocket edges come unstitched. Mine did that.
: : : : : : Peter says if I send it back, he will fix it for free, but I
: : : : : : don't have the $30 plus for mailing it back to the United Kingdom.
: : : : : : He said that there are repair shops here that can do the job.
: : : : : : I'm looking into it.

: : : : : Dale, I've read that you and several others seem to have this problem, and that puzzles me. I have very large hands, and I have had no problems at all using my pockets as hand warmers or anything else, nor do I have any stress or strain on the stitching as you have described. Very interesting. Regards. Michaelson

: : : : Well, I suspect that my jacket problem was a combination of
: : : : trying to fit my hands in the pockets- and, perhaps, over ening
: : : : the pull straps (not intentionally, mind you). I realized the problem
: : : : this past July. When I get back to Warner Robins, I'll have the
: : : : British guy at Mark's Shoe & Luggage Repair shop fix it. After all,
: : : : who better to fix a British jacket than a Brit, right? I hope he
: : : : recognizes the Wested label and is flattered that I came to him
: : : : for assistance. Then maybe we can talk about merry old England
: : : : while he's fixing it.

: : : : -Dale

: : : Dale, I need to recant my above "ranting". I pulled out my jacket and looked it over, and low and behold found the same thing starting to happen to my jacket, and I haven't worn it as much as you have to date. My sister in law did my repairs by retacking the four points of stress, tops and bottoms of both pockets. She said it wasn't a problem, but that leather was the toughest stuff she's ever tried to work on. The repair was perfect. I did send our friend Peter an email to give him a heads up regarding this re-occuring problem, as I have talked to several other Wested owners, and they have told me they have experienced the same problems, but most have performed the same "fix". Thanks for bringing this up. Regards. Michaelson

: : You might also want to check the spot where the leather ring
: : holder loops attach to the jacket. The tops of both of mine are
: : coming loose (one barely and one half way) This worries me. I
: : wear my jacket when the weather calls for it, but not every single
: : day. I wonder if one can buy a special leather sewing needle?
: : I'm surprised at your comment that the jacket leather was tough
: : to sew. It's the softest leather I've ever encountered in my life!
: : (Of course I've never had to sew before, too.)

: No problems at all in those areas, and none reported by the others I talked to. As to the leather, soft yes, but VERY punture resistant. Yes, you can indeed purchase leather needles, but I suggest you just obtain a strong straight needle and not go with the leather needles, as they do indeed punch a pretty large hole in leather, and leather won't "reclose" like cloth does. Regards. Michaelson

Good point. I think I'll leave it for the British guy to fix.
Just asking. Sooo.... How's your day going? Mine's slow. On the
plus side I just finished watching Newsradio- my favorite show!!!
Tomorrow I'm getting the money to order a St. Brynach's Cross
pendant from David Morgan. I'm going to ask him if he will throw
in a 20 inch piece of leather lace with it, because I think it
looks more classic that a piece of sterling chain. I like shopping
from his catalog. I always see something new that I like. To date
I've ordered something like four things from him.
