Ah the memories. Kinski fell in the water and almost drowned during filming. Herzog was cackling like a madman. I saw that on the documntary some years ago. Fun stuff.
Fitzcaraldo was another great jungle/adventure movie by Herzog. It was about that nut (Kinski, who else?) who wanted to bring some culture (opera!) to the heathens of the jungle. Oh well. Fitzcaraldo is the true story of a nineteenth century steamship being hauled by mule and native 12,000 feet up to the shores of Lake Titicaca. A bunch of natives had to die (I kid you not, Herzog felt bad about it) in several accidents.
How did Kinski ever get to have that daughter (Did you see her in Cat People)? She looks nothing like him (Luckily for us, she's real Frischfleisch, though she just turned 41).
FG
PS: Kinski (he not she) rests in peace. Or he flies around the belfry in his Nosferatu outfit.
