T.E. Lawrence and Carchemish

I'm reading the biography of T.E. Lawrence by Jeremy Wilson, and it's quite interesting. Apparently, he was part of a dig at Carchemish, an ancient Hittite city. The British gov't surveyed part Sinai for military purposes under the guise of an archaeological survey and used Lawrence as part of the cover since he was in the area and free in the off-season. It didn't seem like they knew the true intent of the survey until they had already agreed to do it. Who knew it was such a short trip from archaelogist to spy?

The biography abruptly transitions out of Lawrence's archaeologist phase when WWI breaks out, and it left me wondering whatever happened to the Carchemish site. Does anyone know of a book or other source for a postscript of this dig?

Thanks,
Micah
