All kinds of CD-Rs work on my player and the ones I've tried (and all kinds of CD-RWs work on mine) - perhaps your format/layout of the disk wasn't correct - I made a 100% standard-compatible SVCD. I used a miroVideo DC10 capture card, PIII/550.
