Take a look a Archaeology Magazine. Each year there are sites where
amature archaeologists can get involved with digs. The bad news is it
is not free. You have to pay. But you study with "real" archaeologists
and with students studying to become one. There is pre-work to be done,
so you can see just how serious you are. There web site is "http://he.net/~archaeol/".
