I don't know if you saw this or not, but I read an article from the AIA which said that the Taliban was not responsible for the distruction of the Budha. Bin Laden ordered the Taliban to destroy the Budha, and they refused. They would not destroy any Afgan cultural heritage. So bin Laden brought the al Qaeda, who were Sudanese and of other nationalities, to do the dirty work.
