On the July 4th weekend of 2005, you take your family to the best theater in town. There's scarce an empty parking spot. Outside, the lines stretch all the way around the theater and then some. Everyone telling their kids how they saw the originals when they were younger. Fedoras and leather jackets everywhere. The title on the marquee, Harrison Ford's face on a HUGE Indy poster. Then the doors open, they let you into the well air-conditioned theater. You sit in your chair, with your drink and popcorn. The curtain goes up, and the crowd goes nuts, cheering at the heroes, booing the bad guys. Clapping at the titles, the Lucasfilm and Paramount logo. We get to see what we've craved for years: the Indy theme again, blaring through enriched THX sound; the classic "Indy punch" sound effect; that one scream that is present in all the Lucas trilogies (you know, the "AAAAGGHH!" scream). The bullwhip cracking as loud as it ever did. And all of us, smiling, sitting on the edge of our seats, wishing we could experience it all over again.

We see it, enjoy it. And then....we get in line again. That's how good it could be, and that's what has kept me wanting to see it for so long.
