It's "Before Common Era." And as follows logically, CE is "Common Era."
However, the "offense" these new designations are meant to sooth is still there. I read an article which had quotes from archaelogists of non-Christian backgrounds (a Muslim, a Jew, and a Hindu [no, not walking into a bar]) and all three agreed that since the "Common Era" dating is still based on the supposed birth of Jesus it does nothing to change what is supposedly offensive about AD and BC.
I forget which, but only one of the guys was in favor of replacing the traditional dating (AD/BC). His idea, of course, was to go with his own religion's dating system. But even he said it would be easiest to stick with the traditional system.
