I have been following your theory since you proposed it, and tonight, after looking at your webpage, pulled out an old department store Indy fedora I have from a Fred Meyer back in the day, and one of the craptastic new Disney fedoras, and I tried this with both.......preliminary right now, and I don't want to screw them up too badly by totally re blocking them (The 80's Fedora is impossible to replace, and is a sweet dead ringer for the TOD fedora), but it appears that you may really be onto something.

Tomorrow I plan on getting out to a goodwill, and buying a few hats to screw with.....
