OK, here's the actual reply on "Secret of the Sphinx" I got from the author, Max McCoy:

(Some slight spoilers, but they probably will be changed anyway)

The Secret of the Sphinx has been delayed, but not cancelled. Bantam has
lost all of its Lucasfilm franchises to Ballantine, and "Sphinx" is one
of the last holdovers under the old contract, so there seems to be no
hurry to bring it out. Also, some creative differences between Lucasfilm
and the author--involving an extended Indy time travel sequence, in
which Indy of 1958 (nearing 60) returns briefly to the 1930s--have also
contributed to the wait. I am not sure how much, if any, of the time
travel thing will appear in the published book.
