I picked up a really cool French poster of Temple of Doom last week. I'd never even seen the image before. It is completely different art from either of the American TOD posters. As best I can make out the signature, the painted art is by Hichel Jouin. The poster is huge, about 4 feet by 5 feet. The main image is the classic pose of Indy with a machete in one hand and his whip in the other, the same pose that Dave Dorman based his Fate of Atlantis #1 comic book cover on, and that Drew Struzan based the cover of Indiana Jones and the Philosopher's Stone on. That's in the middle of the poster, on the bottom. On the left is a montage of Willie's face, Shorty's face, and Indy on the elephant. On the right at the bottom is a little picture of Indy fighting two of the turbanned Thuggee swordsmen, and over that a huge image of Indy's face. At the top there is a very cool Indiana Jones logo, slightly different from the American TOD one. It's basically the same design, only the outlines of the letters are more jagged and the interior is all yellow rather than the traditional orange ot yellow fade. The title is "Indiana Jones et le Temple Maudit" (which doesn't quite capture the same sense as "Doom"; this title translates a little closer to "Indiana Jones and the Pretty Bad Temple"). Over the title, it says, "Depuis 'Les Aventuriers de l'Arche Perdue', l'Aventure a un nom: Indiana Jones." This translates roughly to "Since 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', adventure has a name: Indiana Jones. Anyway, it is a VERY cool poster, and I am surprised that I have never seen this art anywhere before.

I actually have a very rare spanish poster for RAIDERS ("En Busca del Arca Perdida"), with artwork by "Bysouth". It's like many Spanish posters -- printed on low-quality, non glossy paper. It has Indy (hatless and without his jacket) using his whip -- and flashing an oh-so-cool smile. Toht is in a closeup...a scene from the airplane brawl and the truck chase are featured on the sides...and a Well of Souls scene with Indy holding Marion in his arms. It's painted in acrylic.
