You know, I *really* want to see the widescreen edition. That's no surprise. But if I can't, then I can at least dream, can't I?

Things I'm looking forward to in the letterbox cut:

1) The Leap of Faith, with the invisible bridge. STILL one of my favourite cinema moments.

2) C3PO and R2-D2 in the heiroglyphics. I'm going to see that dadgum image with my own eyes if it kills me!

3) The rope bridge in TOD. I bet it looks really rickety from a further viewpoint.

4) The pair of bugs crawling in Willie's hair as she embraces Indy passionately, blinded by love to the crawlies, although we can't see them in the formatted screen. ("Oh, Indy... your lips taste like fortune cookies!")

5) And finally, the travel maps. Not much of a plot device, but I'm an old-map-lovin' kinda guy.

If anyone wants to make this a Top 6 or 7 reasons to see the letterbox version, go ahead. And yes, #4 was just my overactive imagination.

Well, at least I'm not the only one. Maybe we can get a lot of people together here in North America to petition for it. I think it would be kind of cool to be part of something like that.

I had a thought, though...what if they just say, "Well, guys, just hold on. Because we'll release a sort of "Indy Special Edition" before Indy IV comes out. Any ideas?

All good reasons for wanting the widescreen version, Dentman, but as for the 3PO & R2 heiroglyphs - even with a really big screen, and a couple of huge sessions of slo-mo, I haven't been able to find them yet.

No! Don't let them do an Indy special edition! By all means digitally remaster the originals, fix the sound, etc., but don't dare change a single shot! I think I'd cry if they digitally added Henry Jones Sr. to an "all new" scene in Raiders, or if they busied up the Temple of Doom secret tunnel with CGI flying insects, to complement the existing stuff. Don't let Lucas "improve" the IJ stuff as well!

I personally hate it when they do that. For example, to coincide with Batman & Robin, they released "The Ultimate Batman Collection," containing the first three in a matching box. Well, great. Now, where does the fourth fit in? But that's just an aesthetic point. Truthfully, that's probably why they're delaying it. But then -- would they release Indy IV on video as letterbox? Oy. Definitely a can of worms here. Maybe I'll just fall back on the "put the pressure on Lucasfilm" strategy. :)

Any thoughts to the fact that if they wait until the release of Indy IV, supposedly by 2000, and the advent of HDTV being the law by 2004 or 06, that maybe they're hedging on releasing widescreen in standard NTSC (4:3), as HDTV is already 16:9 widescreen format? I read in my technical papers that a lot of companies are not releasing new video "sets", but are shooting in HDTV video format as well as film and placing them in vaults for later release, when everyone HAS to buy the new equipment (TV's, VCR's and so forth) in order to comply with the law. Our 4:3 tapes will still work with the old stuff, but the new releases won't. Progress is great, but it's really screwing up my business. Regards.

Dentman, I hate it, too. I mean, God knows I have every different version of the Star Wars Trilogy, and, well, each one is better than the last.

As far as the new technology goes, in my opinion, it kinda sucks because if you buy something now, then you take the risk of it being obsolete in the next few months or years, but if you wait, well, you'll be waiting for a while.
