This is a very interesting discussion to be had. The implication I transferred all along had been not that the government was dumb, but that the Ark of the Covenant was merely one of hundreds of powerful artifacts, mysterious or alien objects, uncontrollable treasures - what have you. I kinf of took that the US government would have the biggest collections (or Britian tied in with them) and the rest of the superpowers that were at the time falling in line. Yeah, of course the government is dumb, but they are not THAT dumb, and we all know that (it's what makes the government so scary).
