:If you'll remember the reason pan and scan was created was because there was a cry from the public many years ago (70's and early 80's) who didn't wan the letterbox style. TV's at that time had a nasty habit of "burning" in the black band at the top and bottom of the screen, which didn't go away for a day or more, or if an older set, never. Widescreen format disappeared from the shelves, unless it was a special movie release. With the new TV sets now, and the soon to be HDTV, I believe this situation will take care of itself, being HDTV is th 16:9 ratio, widescreen in itself. Until then, the letterbox taboo should be a thing of the past. Regards.
: p.s. Has anyone besides me noticed that most available dvd movies you can buy are in widescreen format? huh? didja?
