:     He should have been acknowledged to have existed, at least. He was a part of the story at that point, whether any particular author liked it or not. Authors shouldn't pretend that what was written before didn't exist or did not happen!

If memory serves me right, the original version of chapter 38 had Aragorn drop off Indiana Jones at a Subway restaurant! For some reason, I can sure see Indy eating there! (Don't ask) :) I don't think we mentioned his name, but we implied his existence when Aragorn said "I have to drop off a friend". I think it went that way.
