My conclusion was that the translation table was incorporated in the game itself somehow, but I have not come across it yet and I am not sure at which stage it is needed. I have managed to complete the game without it however.

I have both an original 5.25" disc version and a budget CD version. It's simple: You need the code for the old disc version but it was left away for the CD re-release.
