It may be because you are adjusting the side-straps too tightly and that causes stress in the seams on the side. The straps really need to be left alone, no tugging for a tight fit or constant adjusting. If this is not the exact experience you are having, please specify exactly where the hole is developing. Is it isolated to the one side or do you see it happening to both? --nitzsche

Never-mind, I see you said the hole was in the lining, but I'll keep the bit about the straps in anyway just in case. Sorry.
