Rather than wasting time and running for help, Indiana discovered that taking matters into your own hands could turn out to be succesful(not in his very first adventure though). When Fedora crowned young Indy with the felt hat, it was the symbol of himself, of what he was, and what he was to be.

Speaking of the fedora: How does it still fit Indy after all those years? But still, FEDORA gave him the hat, but Fedora was an adult, so Indy could've grown into it through the years.
