When blood goes on the lens of the screen of movies

Sometimes, when I watch action movies, whenever people get shot or killed, blood goes on the lense for a brief period of time. Is that intentional? Here are some cases where I noticed:

Saving Private Ryan, Omaha Beach battle sequence
Braveheart, another battle sequence
and good ol' Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy shoots three Nazi's with one bullet (a big surprise there)
