Just finished reading the new Harrison Ford bio called Harrison Ford: Imperfect Hero. The biographer dug this up while investingating the scriptwriting phase of Indy 4 begun oh...5 years ago.

"...the laughter was muted back at Paramount, however. Hopes of having Indiana Jones back on the road later in the year were dashed when the second draft of the new script was returned to writer Jeb Stuart for more work. The storyline of Indiana Jones and the Lost Continent, conceived originally by George Lucas, seemed promising enough. Indiana stumbles across the Lost World of Atlantis just as early nuclear tests are about to destroy it forever."
