: : : I figure out that someone has the old question that I answered before. Actualy, Indy was saying Mandirin to Short Round on the bridge scene, it is "Xiao Sin, La Zu Sain Zi" > "Be careful, Grip the rope". I hope this would help.

:
: : I think what he really meant to say is "Xiao Xin, La Zu SHENG Zi". The pronounciation was heavily distorted by Ford (probably because he had to shoot that scene a few times) and he made it sound like bad words for the first two words, and the last four words sounded like he was telling Shorty to pull on to the "strings or threads" (on a rope bridge??)

: If Short Round is from Shanghai why is he always speaking in Cantonese?

Good one. You got me, and I don't want to resort to any speculation. Lucas' script writers for Shorty's dialogues are probably of Hong Kong descent. Besides, Ke Huy Chuan is from Vietnam, and he has probably mingled with the Cantonese-speaking Asian community in America, so it might be more natural for him to use Cantonese instead of Mandarin.
